Bidding Farewell to 2011

There are only a few hours remaining to usher in the year 2012!

We had our resolutions a year ago and are now crossing out those that were fulfilled. For the resolutions that were not fulfilled, maybe they will be chucked away, or maybe they will roll over to 2012.

As the clock ticks, we list our new resolutions for 2012 and how we are going to achieve them.
Diets, exercises, putting a stop to drinking alcohol are a few of the usual resolutions. What are yours? Are they realistic? Do you think you will achieve each and every one of them? What if you fail to execute one or two? How are you going to handle it?

All the best in your plans, as you celebrate the coming of 2012, remember to be grateful for all the blessings you have received for this year, and be thankful for being able to see 2012. Take the disappointments you received in 2011 as a challenge and learning point for you to better yourself in the coming year.

We have lost friends, relatives, colleagues in 2011, we pray for their souls to rest in eternal peace.

Be grateful for having the health, wealth, strength and the ability to celebrate 2012. Celebrate safely and enjoy your evening/night/morning!

Happy New Year 2012.

Stuck in Traffic for 3 Hours

You must have read the heading and thought 3 hours, that's nothing. I have been stuck in traffic longer than that before.

The hours may not be so much but the bad thing is the distance from where I was coming to where I was going should not have been more than 20 minutes, assuming there was a slight queue and delay caused by two traffic lights.People left the office, went home and showered, got out for dinner, and I was still on the same road!

For those who know Dar, I was coming from Sinza just behind Mlimani city and heading to Ubungo...like 100 meters after UDSM  Mabibo Hostel.
The pace at which the cars were moving was enough to know there was a problem up ahead. The funny thing is, you could not see anything whenever you reach an intersection, it's just a bunch of other cars also moving at the same pace. No blockage, no accidents, nothing.

This is the holiday season and normally people are out of town and the roads are almost empty. But today, alas!

.Kudos to our local radio stations for playing nice songs at least they make you forget for a while where you are. Oh and I was able to order Chips Kuku from a kibanda on the road....so I had my dinner to go, literally!
After this drama today, I have sworn to leave the office at 3pm tomorrow, come what may!!!!!

DAILY HEALTH TIP- Maintaining Healthy Joints

Forever Freedom, in a breakthrough formula, has assembled the most complete team of nutrients on the market today, valuable in the maintenance of healthy joint function and mobility.

Leave it to Forever Living to marry the rich nutrients of stabilized Aloe Vera gel with Glucosamine Sulfate (1500mg in 100ml) and Chondroitin Sulfate (1200mpg in 100ml) - two naturally occurring elements that have been shown to help maintain healthy joint function and mobility. Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which occur naturally in the body, work to maintain cartilage health by keeping it nourished. Glucosamine works to maintain the fluid in cartilage, while Chondroitin, an ingredient of cartilage tissue, works to draw fluid and nutrients in.

Since cartilage is not supported by the circulatory system, both of these processes become vital. Working together, they promote your first line of defense against joint deterioration.

To complete this exceptional formula we've added MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane - 750mg per 100ml), a primary source of bio-available sulphur that the body needs to maintain healthy connective tissues and joint function along with Vitamin C (250mg per 100ml) and Vitamin E. All these are naturally sourced. It's a practical and nutritious way to defend against the signs of aging and protect our joints. Recommended for both sports people and those wishing to maintain mobility.
Forever Freedom has an Orange flavour.

Shake well and take 60 ml to 120 ml a day. Forever Freedom contains Glucosamine which is not recommended for patients taking Warfarin. If you have been prescribed Warfarin you should not take Forever Freedom.
Please note that this product is a liquid - the term gel is derived from the plant.
This product contains shellfish.  Contains 12% sodium, people with high blood pressure may not wish to use this product.

Uncivilized things to do…….

According to me, these are some habits I would consider uncivilized
-          You are invited to a party and without asking if you can bring someone, you take two people with you!
People budget for parties and when you are invited, they know they can feed you, not your whole clan.

-          You ‘pop in’ to a neighbor’s house at 2pm, just to say hi.
Just after lunch when people want to relax and lounge and you expect them to sit and talk.

-          You go visit a friend at 9am on a Saturday unannounced!
Some people sleep in on weekends. You know how much of a hassle it is to get up and brush your teeth, take a shower, get decently dressed and go and start making breakfast for both of you?

-          You go to a friend’s house (not a close friend) and open their refrigerator just to check what’s in there.
Do you stock the refrigerator? Is it yours? No. So sit down on the couch or chair and wait to be served.

-          Answering the phone and talking so loudly in a public crowded place.
Who needs to know ‘dada Yule kuku mtoe kwenye friji ayeyuke, niko njiani nakuja kupika’?.

-          Picking your nose and extending your hand to greet someone.
Yuck!Germs!

-          Blaming someone for not inviting you to a function.
So you weren’t invited…no drinks nor party food. You haven’t lost anything by not being there!

-          We are not friends, just acquaintances and you call me to tell me you want me to contribute to your wedding. Then calling again and saying I owe you my contribution.

-          Holding other people’s phones and scrolling through them.
That’s why the phone numbers are registered to Amina, Sarah,Andrew,Massanja! It is not a public phone!

-          Calling at midnight just because the calling rates are lower or free.
Some of us do sleep at night and you wake me up just to say so how have you been? What’s new?

-          Greeting someone you have not seen in 3 years and all of a sudden saying “here’s my number call me’.
If we have not met in 3 years and I have not suffered nor missed you nor had the need to talk to you and I am perfectly healthy and comfortable….why should I look for you?

References when seeking employment

Referees are an important aspect when searching for a new job. All employers check for references before making an offer of employment. No one wants to hire a person who does not have a good track record.

Many people do not give reference much thought and tend to put their relatives, spouses as their referees. We all know there is no way your uncle or aunty may say something bad about you. They will paint you as the best employee ever!

Here are some of the points to consider when including people as your referees in your CV:

  • ·         Do not put your relatives unless you have worked for them and there is proof of this
  • ·         Inform your referee that you have indicated them as your referee. This helps them not to be caught off guard when they are contacted by potential employers.
  • ·         Make sure the contact details of your referee are current and exhaustive. Do not give just a phone number for instance. What if his/her number is not reachable at the time s/he is contacted? Ensure you know how best s/he can be contacted. Indicate the current place of work, phone number and email address.
  • ·         Make sure the referee does know you personally. Try avoiding putting a lecturer who taught you when there were more than 300 students 3 years ago! Chances are he will not remember you.
  • ·         Your referee should be a person who worked with you closely. A line manager, head of department is appropriate. This ensures s/he will be able to answer questions relating to your habits at work, how you follow orders and also how you work in a team. These are crucial in determining whether to employ someone or not.
  • ·         If you do not have a lot of work experience or you are a recent graduate, put your research Report Supervisor as one of your referees. At least it is recent and s/he is more likely to remember you.
  • You can also add a Supervisor at the Organization where you undertook your Internship. S/he will be able to vouch for you as s/he worked with you during your period of internship.
