64 Billion TZS used on 50 Years Independence Celebrations in Tanzania

A few weeks ago I had voiced my concerns over the use of Government money to usher 50 years of Independence of Tanganyika. Today I read in the paper that 64 Billion TZS was used in all the festivities since July this year.

I am astonished that people can actually authorize all that money to be spent in the period of 5 months just for one celebration. And I assume that is the least amount they could use, as in it could have been more!

Who do we blame? It tears our hearts apart thinking of the state of Health Care in our country . The number of people dying on their way to hospitals in the villages. Couldn't some of that money have been saved and instead used for the benefit of the masses who are in need?

We have a long way to go. So now we have celebrated....what do we have to show for the 64 Billion? A new building? The formation of a Corporation that would secure employment for 1,000 unemployed people? Or some civil servants happy and smiling at the per diem they received manning stalls at exhibitions?

Better yet, Advertising and Marketing companies thrilled at the hefty paychecks they received for publishing flyers, printing Tshirts, Organizing exhibitions?
