Challenges of Living in a foreign Country

A signinficant percent of people live in a country that is not their home country. There are those who live in a foreign country due to seeking an Education, others live abroad because of marriage and others because of work.

The prospect of living in a foreign country is exciting for many especially for those who love traveling. As soon as you get that Visa you smile and your mind starts doing cartwheels! The excitement keeps building up as you make travel arrangements and as it comes closer to your travel date, it starts dawning on you that this is it.

Upon arrival in the country of destination, it begins becoming real and no longer a dream. You are there. No parents, no aunts, no uncles. All communication with your close relatives remain through emails and telephones.

Differences in culture usually is a problem in the first couple of months. You have to adapt to it because that is your new life. Different food, different pass times, different laws.

At some point you get so homesick and wish you were back home. People who live far from their families miss births, weddings, funerals just to mention a few. It becomes depressing and may sometimes cause emotional harm to an individual.

It's therefore important to maintain relationships with people from your country of origin, at least they make you miss home a little less, and you get to talk and share stories about home!
